Today's Little Tidbit...

...today is an interesting day for me. I am taking on a new role in my work, one that has some distinct differences from where I have been these past 20 years. It definitely places me outside my normal "comfort zone". The truth is though, I am quite excited about this new place, and the world that is opened before me. I hope that this provides for me a refreshed view of the world in which I work, I feel that it does.

Other things:

I watched the debate between Kerry and Bush last evening and was struck by two things. First, I'm sick of the right-wing zealots bashing of people. This debate tactic of not debating, but using the floor to create "sound-bite" strips is abuse of the forum. Why is it that the Republican party has forgone all reasonable manners of debate on issues and resorted to this lame, name-calling, bully tactic? I guess for the same reason they've run out all the reasonable Republicans, like Jack Kemp, Bill Weld etc. - the "crap" they're selling we're buying. We should demand more substance and less fluff.

The second thing is John Kerry totally missed the opportunity to do the same thing, I really don't think he created a powerful sound bite. From my prior discussion this would seem to be a good thing, but when you're in the school yard and the bully spits at you, if you think you can reason your way with him, well, get the ice pack and ibuprofen ready...unfortunately, when one of the candidates stoops to the level of sound bite sloganeering, name-calling and label making, you can't have a debate - you gotta fight back. One way is to throw punches as well, another is to call them on their lame ass tricks and bring the fight to your level. I don't think Kerry did either. And for us Americans, if we don't demand it, well, we'll get what we deserve, what they're selling. Trite, shallow, name-calling crap.
